Teaching methods

The School of Natural Medicine, Iceland (SNMI) is a unique naturopathic school in that it uses an accelerated learning, advanced multiple intelligence approach to teach the curriculum.

Lectures

Structured presentations, power point presentations and student-teacher interactive lectures provide a means to pass on to the students essential information and concepts.

Demonstration

Demonstrations by the teachers provide real life role modeling of the diagnostic and treatment modalities taught by the school and are an important way for the students to see how to apply the teachings in a clinical setting.

Discussions

Every class day offers a time for discussion of the teachings and the students’ personal experiences as does the monthly student gatherings. Discussions are a valued venue for exploring and deepening the understanding of the curriculum.

Experiential exercises

Exercises play an essential role in the teachings, as the school emphasizes each student becoming an embodiment, a true living example, of a naturopathic lifestyle. The exercises are done singly, in pairs, in smaller groups or with the whole student body.

Group process sessions

Group process sessions allow the students to enter a state-of-being that facilitates and enhances accelerated embodied learning. Furthermore, group processes are valuable in assisting the students developing their own inner wisdom and strengthen their intuition.

Healing processes

Healing processes, with the group healing one person or with the students working in pairs, demonstrates the power of each of the treatment modalities taught in the school as well as the amazing healing that takes place when all modalities are integrated. Healing processes are also used to deepen the students own healing journey and their understanding of naturopathy.

Creativity and the expressive arts

Mystic movement, music, singing and chanting, mandala creation and beauty offerings are some of the aspects of the classes that activate the right side of the brain, emphasizing a deeper learning experience.

Mentoring

Dr. Farida Sharan, founder and director of The School of Natural Medicine, personally mentors each and every student. The other teachers at the school will also be available to oversee each student’s learning and self-healing process.

Student gatherings

Monthly student gatherings are held to provide ongoing support and supervision as well as provide a forum for students to practice their knowledge and skills and to share their self-healing experience.
